NICK CAVE

Listening to the latest Nick Cave, I realize my life course has been determined and paralleled by Nick Cave releases.

Tender Prey was my college radio days, drunk, jumpy, three punk shows a week and girls, girls, girls…yes, up jumped the devil.

The Good Son was pretty much the same, except I was legal to finally drink inside the clubs and I had a little more romance in me..

Henry's Dream was a bad release for me as I was in a bad living situation and a bad relationship....I had a woman who ruled my house with an iron fist.

Let Love In was my Europe traveling days when I thought I was Kerouac as I tried to make connections with lovely French girls and I tried to find the pub in Prague where Nick had sorrow in the Thirsty Dog.

Murder Ballads and Boatman's Call were blurry. I still went to every show Nick has played in the Bay Area since 1990, I just wasn't as connected.

Nick and I lost touch.

Then he came out with No More Shall We Part. He knew I'd left him and beckoned back to me. Yes Nick, I hear you and I'm back and have I told you I'm married? Well Nick surprised me by getting married also and talked about his Sorrowful Wife and I related and he told me God was in the house and I said I know. So I reminisced about our old days together and how there were times when the Moon was in the Gutter and there was a Mutiny in Heaven and when Stagger Lee would crawl over 50 good pussies just to get to one fat boy's asshole.

But reminiscing about the past is just that, so I put Nick away for a bit, but he called again with Nocturama and said, Tony, we're both a little older, one step closer to maturity, but we still have dark souls. And I said Bring it On cause Babe I'm on Fire.

Nocturama comes out next week and It's a Wonderful Life...especially since I downloaded the MP3 files about a month ago.

I need a glass of whiskey and a clove cigarette.
I feel romantic.

Necesito un cristal el whisky y un cigarrillo del clavo.
Me siento romántico.

yo tony,

we must go dive-ing sometime and share some Cave parallelisms ... nice recap ! those roads had gotten a wee bit filed toward the back of my re-c-ollection , but it opens up all sorts of music capsulated memories and catharses .

and sorry for the delay in responding to a comment somewhere 5 or 6 ft. down under ...i've put you on me list for upcoming podly radio and performance news.

... and that cortland cafe used to be an infrequent , but always a homey port.

greetings,
pod

Every time a new Nick Cave is released I'm thinking: No this time he has gone too far. And an hour later I realize I'm humming the song. And I know him since the Birthday party.
