Big [B]Other HOW LATITUDES BECOME FORMS

February 01, 2003

Title

On Thursday I had to speak at a workshop on 19th & Mission. I live on 30th & Mission. I decided to walk it. I always get nerved up when I'm about to speak publicly, so I took 2 Xanax and a double shot of vodka. Xanax makes me sweat and walking does too, so by the time I got to 19th & Mission I headed into the dark bar called Sacrifice (19th & Van Ness) to dry out. My flask was filled with vodka just in case I totally freaked out at the venue.

Another thing that tends to happen when I’m about to engage in public speaking is my bowels like to let loose. Diarrhea.

Yes, I do speak publicly, but my bodily functions make me pay dearly for it.

And I sweat.

When I got to the venue, I thought we were going to be asked questions from a panelist, but it turned out we were scheduled to speak about independent publishing individually. I didn't want to just give a boring history of Cherry Bleeds, so I spoke about my trouble with public speaking and how my bowels take a life of their own. The fuckers.

From there I segued into some info regarding how to steal web space from corporations and why most 'zines and writers suck……thus affirming my resolve to suck as a writer and a zinester with the rest of them.

After the event we (the guests and speakers) drank tons of beer.

I slept in on Friday. My bowels were much better, thanks for asking.

Tonight, my wife and I are going to a party for Opium Magazine in the Lower Haight and then heading over to the Tenderloin (220 Club) to see The Bar Feeders, a great punk band from Los Angeles. The Weird Weather (local 'zine) crew will be there to punk out with us.

I need coffee.
I feel incomplete.

Necesito el café.
Me siento incompleto.

Oh, I forgot to put that, the event was at Spanganda on 19th & Mission.

My friends, who stole the web space for me and other music related stuff, ended up getting fired from their contract. They almost had to go to court for it, but covered their asses enough and it was OK in the end.

It was nice to give a big "fuck you" to corporate america for a while though.....and always a nice story to tell when I'm thrown in front of a spot light and asked to explain myself. :)

I see Diarrhea more like a test of control and force of will that takes the human spirit to unimaginable states of mind ;)
